finally...Scrumble # 51

Well, I guess you may have noticed that I didn't actually get the last 2 'far-from-weekly' scrumbles  done nearly as quickly as I had hoped.

I see that I promised them nearly a year ago.  Ooops! ...sorry about that...where does the time get to?

I did finally finish both a couple of weeks ago, and took photos while I was travelling down south, but am only now getting around to posting the first of the pictures.

Not much of a blogger, am I?

Anyway, here is the first, and a bit about how it was done:

All crochet.  Mostly wool, or wool blend yarns; some smooth, some bouclĂ©.
Vaguely circular in construction, but changing the height of the stitches in each 'round' created lots of peaks and troughs around the edges.
Most of the stitches were worked into the back loops only of the stitches in the previous rounds, so that the front loops could be used later for a bit of surface embellishment. A few ruffles were added at the centre; some raised crab stitch (reverse single crochet) helped to add definition around the outside.

Many thanks to everyone who is still hanging in there and following this rather quiet blog.

Don't want to spoil you, though, so I won't add the other photo for a day or two ;-)

  1. Nice to see some action blog-wise but it is a healthy thing that your crochet life remains far and away the major occupier of your time instead of the blogosphere. Love your work.

  3. So, with scrumbles, do you just start crocheting and stitch whatever way you feel inspired to go? Changing textures, colors, stitches and landscape in whatever way you feel led to go? I just LOVE your work!

  4. That's right, Maschelle; it's a fun and very creative way to crochet. Often I continue working with the same yarns for a bit, and eventually turn the resulting patches into garments. Other times I just enjoy experimenting and creating random pieces with no ultimate purpose in mind. Recently I have been making lots of one-of-a-kind brooches and neck-pieces.

    1. I am in LOVE with the garments you've made that I've seen! There are capes and long, short whatever things that look like a cape to me but may be called something else. I've seen a red and purple one, peacock colors and more...just breathtakingly beautiful! Your creative mind is a treasure! Does freeform ever use motifs stitched together? I imagine it more like one continuous flowing piece, like the path a river travels, twisting, turning, shallows, rapids, even waterfalls. It "becomes" as it flows. Is that accurate? I just can't express how deeply your art form reaches my core. I could stare at it all day, constantly discovering more landscapes and moods as I follow your "paths". I will own a piece of your work one day! Even if I save for years to get just one exquisite piece! Keep it up!

  5. I thought I just wrote a comment but not sure it went through. I adore all your work. If you ever have anything small for sale I would love to get a chance to buy something of yours. I don't mind if it takes a while for you to get pictures up since every time I look at one of your scrumbles I see something new!
