  1. Hope you have a great time in NYC and enjoy your class...didn't get to make it this time :( but looking forward to seeing some pictures of your installation :) Love the scrumble too.

  2. This one is fascinating! All the variegated yarn looks almost as if it were done in buttonhole stitch.

  3. Lovely yarn and effect. OK, at a guess it is a yarn cord over-crocheted with the multi-brown yarn, then twisted round and stitched (is it on a backing?, don't think so). Very effective anyway.

  6. Wow, I have just discovered your blog and find it fascinating. I have never tried freeform crochet. I will be "visiting" more often!

  7. as you probably all guessed, this scrumble was made by working UK dc stitches (US sc) over a long length of thicker cord.

i started with the purple circle in the middle. then changed to the pink mohair and lurex yarn and continued on, working the crochet stitches fairly tightly over the cord, twisting it around randomly, and periodically catching the stitches to previously worked sections wherever i felt it would fit well and look good. i finished it with a couple more purple circles, and imagine that i would have added more of these in a fairly balanced manner if the scrumble had grown larger.

even though it looks quite 'lacy', this scrumble is actually really firm. i think that a lot of them joined together would make a wonderful wearable, and one day i might just work on a garment using scrumbles such as this one.

  8. hi! although i've been a fan of your work for some time now, i never knew you about this blog until today! and as much as i enjoy *looking* at your work, getting some insight into the process of one your more "relaxed" pieces, you know done in your own free time sort of thing, not for a specific project or book... just having fun! (there, i found the right words!!)

this piece instantly caught my eye as something unique, even in freeform fiber arts! i've never seen a piece like this, or the technique, so i'm very happy to know more about it!

on the subject of what the piece could be, as soon as you said it was actually really firm, i thought "awesome rug"!! as a rug it would be a very cool home decoration & a conversation piece of sorts!!

keep up the blog, your work is *so* inspiring!
